I'll be taking a short break from deviant art as real life comes in first.



There are also several things bothering me about deviantART lately. Like how it is getting more and more commercial. Don't tell me those big adds don't make you go crazy specially the ones placed on someone's gallery page. I mean ok, you can have commercials, adds but why are they necessary even on the gallery page? it takes away all the fun of browsing, and no, i'm not going to purchase a subscription just to get rid of them. It's not worth it.

A second thing would be the high shipping prices for prints and other products. The cheapest shipping method to Romania would cost me 59$. This of course adds to the value of the product(s) and again - it's not worth it - despite the beautiful works around.

A third thing bothering me about deviant art is the mediocrity of the majority of the works shown. And maybe this would not be very unpleasant as people come here to get exposure and learn but the fact is that there are many aggressive, dark, negative works or others, very puerile, fairy looking creatures ... the same motives repeated again and again and again.

I tend to see little creativity around as there are many people who resume to imitating the all-mighty, all known (popular) artists around. And when i finally get some time to browse, specially the fractal gallery, i often get to see entire pages filled by gallery spammers. They just post the same fractal with different gradients or with contrast adjusted or in the best case with slight little changes. I have nothing against their experimentations, but why not submit a single pack with all the versions? or choose the best and submit only that one. Hm ....

I actually understand all this, because i too joined deviant art to learn. In fact, in the beginning i created this account just to browse and fav the art i liked, and i was thrilled. Then i found tutorials and developed from nothing to the fractal maker you see now. But in 3 and a half years spent on deviant art i've seen this site and community developing and i've also learned that there are better ways to spend your time.

This is why for the next few weeks i'll be reallocating the time spent on deviant art to other purposes. I have several projects i'm working on currently, that have nothing to do with art and that need my attention.

So, bottom line is that i'll be checking from time to time, even submit more stuff but do way less browsing and commenting, due to the reasons mentioned above.




And regarding the "art" i'm making i can say that i'm currently in a phase of experimentation. I'm working on what will be for me "a new generation of fractals", and i'll be concentrating less on shapes and more on textures, colors, the use of empty space. I'm trying to simplify things.

I currently have some old renders, that lay on my computer for a month or so (when i had an inspiration burst) and that i'll be posting. I'll also be posting new stuff as soon as i'll get them rendered.
